LAGOS SAFETY COMMISSION TUTORS PUBLIC SERVANTS ON HAZARD PREVENTION

The Lagos State Safety Commission has stressed the need for public servants across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to imbibe the culture of safety awareness within their environment and in the course of rendering service to the public.

In his address during the Commission’s quarterly safety programme tagged “Work Safe, Live Safe”, the Director General of Lagos State Safety Commission, Hon. Hakeem Dickson – represented by the Director, Admin and Human Resources, Mr. Taiwo Fesomu – restated the need for safety consciousness among Public servants, noting that safety remains non-negotiable.

He said that the State government owes it a duty to create awareness on the various precautionary measures required by its workforce to avoid accidents and hazards as well as remedial measures available when unforeseen incidents occur.

“Everybody has to be safe. Safety is not negotiable for anyone in any place, anyone who neglects safety is a potential victim of hazards and accident, only someone who is safe can be productive.” the Director-General declared.

While highlighting some cases of accidents in offices, he opined that everyone goes through different risks on a daily basis which many often ignore at home, offices and public places.

Also speaking during the event, the Director for Safety Training and Education, Mr. Adeyinka Adebiyi expressed optimism that members of the public can help the government curb prevalence of accidents and injuries in the State by simply imbibing the safety culture.

He expressed satisfaction with previous safety sensitization programmes held at Ikorodu, Badagary, Ikeja, Lagos Islandand Epe (IBILE) divisions of the State.

The Director, Compliance and Enforcement, Mrs. Ronke Odeneye took participants through fire prevention and emergency procedures, stressing that the use of phones in petrol stations and smoking in public places posed risks of fire outbreak and should, therefore, be avoided by everyone.

She cautioned civil servants at the event to advise their colleagues and friends to desist from the usage of mobile phones within fuel stations.
