LAGOS HOLDS FIRE PREVENTION CONFERENCE

The Lagos State Safety Commission has again demonstrated its resolve of ensuring the safety of lives and property by organizing a Three-Day Fire Safety Conference with the theme: “The Economic Effects of Active and Passive Fire Prevention in Lagos State”.

 

According to the Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Hakeem Dickson, the Fire Safety conference became necessary and expedient in the light of recent fire incidents witnessed in the State.

 

Dickson observed that most fire incidents were caused by human error, adding that colossal loss of lives and property incurred during a fire outbreak cannot be quantified, most especially life.

 

He explained that the purpose of the conference was to gather experts in the relevant fields to address the issue of fire safety and to proffer solutions on how to prevent fire occurrence.

 

Other speakers at the event dwelt on topics such as fire effects of flammable and combustible liquids in the workplace; the role of Insurance in Fire prevention and the responsibility of stakeholders as well as Fire, Risk and the Workplace.

 

After the presentations, there was a consensus amongst participants that all stakeholders needed to collaborate and enforce safety laws while Lagos State Safety Commission was commended for convening the conference.

 

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nigerian Insurers Association and Lagos State Safety Commission.
