LAGOS TO ENFORCE TRAFFIC LAW

 

…RESTRICTS SHUTTLE SERVICES TO BARRACKS, HIGHER INSTITUTIONS

The State Government has again reiterated its determination to enforce the provisions of the 2012 State Road Traffic Law, just as it implored all residents and motorists in the State to abide by traffic rules and regulations in order to ensure sanity on our roads.

Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi, the Special Adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Transportation, stated this on Tuesdayduring a press briefing held at Alausa on the noticeable flagrant disobedience of the State Road Traffic Law.

He decried the nonchalant attitude and total disregard for the Road Traffic Law by some motorists plying Lagos Roads and said that the government would not fold its arms and allow impunity to reign in the State.

The Special Adviser also disclosed that government has held consultations with Heads of Military formations, the Police Command and Tertiary institutions in the State, in a bid to restrict the operations of all shuttle service vehicles to the barracks and campuses for which their services were approved.

Elegushi announced the government’s decision to enforce the restriction of commercial motorcycle operators to the specified areas in conformity with the existing traffic laws of the State.

In another development, the Lagos State government has sealed the premises of nine transport companies operating at Jibowu for violating government directives that all interstate passengers and cargo operators should relocate their operations to the OjotaInterstate Motor Park.

Elegushi noted that the relocation directive was to further improve the traffic situation in the metropolis while also trying to put an end to the damage done to some of the public infrastructure provided along the Jibowu corridor by the luxurious buses belonging to the transport companies.
