LAGOS HOLDS PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED EMBEDDED POWER PROJECT

Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has held a One-Day Public hearing with all relevant stakeholders on the Lagos State Electric Power Sector Forum Bill, 2017 towards the formal passing and signing of the bill into law.

The public hearing which was held inside the Assembly Complex of the Lagos State House of Assembly was at the instance of the 7-Man Ad Hoc Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources set up by the Honourable Speaker of the House, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa at the second reading of the bill on Monday, December 4, 2017.

Speaking on the floor of the House during the presentation of the Bill, Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Olawale Oluwo pointed out that the State Government will among other things, have a Commission in place to regulate the activities of personnel, energy sourcing, distribution and circulation to Lagosians both in rural and urban areas as well as the establishment of Power Rangers to checkmate power theft in the State.

According to the Commissioner, the embedded power project which targets 3000 MW, is very pivotal in the programs of government and necessary machinery are in place to ensure the success of the project. He said, the bill, when passed into law hopefully by January next year, will ensure that 24-hour electricity supply is put in place for all Lagosians.

He said the intention of the government is to ensure the security of lives and property of all Lagosians, improved quality of life for all residents, irrespective of ethnicity, provision of embedded power meters for users and eradication of estimated bills.
