LAGOS BRIEFS ELIGIBLE CIVIL SERVANTS ON PROMOTION EXERCISE

As part of preparations for the 2018 promotion exercise, Lagos State Civil Service Commission recently organized a general briefing session for eligible Civil Servants on the requirements and criteria for participating in the promotion exercise.

Speaking at the briefing session in Alausa, Ikeja, the Chairman, Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Adeyinka Oyemade said the pre-promotion Structured Training Programme is not designed to make promotion difficult for Civil Servants, rather it is to help build their capacity.

She noted that the instructional training programme commences from 5th Monday to Tuesday 13th March, 2018 and is compulsory for all officers eligible for promotion.

Oyemade assured that the State government is very much concerned about the career progress of each of its workers, as such the training programme is designed in a way to enhance the knowledge and develop the capacity of each civil servant.

In her words, “There is no cause for alarm. Lagos State Government does not believe in you failing, the government is concerned about your welfare, your progress and improved performance at work.”

While commending the workforce for excellent service to the State, she urged them to ensure that they maintain orderliness, dress as appropriate and ensure punctuality during the training and promotion exercises.

“Let us continue to uphold the standard of excellent service delivery as we have always done. Lagos remains at the top of all others in Nigeria. Be committed to maintaining the status of pacesetters”, she added.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Adeyemi Taofeek Fashola stated that government is working to improve on the success achieved in ease of transition of civil servants from one level to another during 2017 promotion exercise.

He disclosed further that the State will move from its current promotion exercise to series of training programmes for eligible civil servants in 2020. This, according to him, is a measure government is taking to ease promotion process for its workforce.

The Director-General, Public Service Staff Development Center (PSSDC), Prof. Olufunmi Ajose revealed that the new mode for promotion adopted last year turned out to be a convenient way for elevating staff within the civil service.

He explained that government aims to achieve a better outcome after 2018 promotion, noting that the training programme that precedes the promotion is designed to sharpen the skills of eligible candidates, update their knowledge and expose them to scientific ways of discharging their duties.
