SAFETY IS A COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY – LASDRI BOSS

The Chief Executive Officer of Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI), Mr. Philip Ogunlade has disclosed that safety is a collective responsibility and urged all drivers and motorists to be conversant with road safety tips and avail themselves the services of the Agency to reduce accidents on Lagos roads.

Mr. Philip Ogunlade, who stated this at the launch of a Driving School in Ogba informed road users, especially commercial drivers, that training and retraining drivers periodically on current developments is paramount, adding that “the cost expended on training a driver is actually cheaper than the cost incurred when the unexpected happens”.

According to him, data on road accidents collected by the Federal Road Safety Corps in 2016 and 2017 indicates a significant drop in the number of road traffic accidents in Lagos in 2017 partly due to the efforts of the State government, through the Agency, on the training of drivers.

The LASDRI boss restated that “With adequate training and retraining of drivers in reputable driving schools in the State, there is sure to be a significant reduction of road traffic accidents across the state and the country”.

While commending the efforts of the management of the Driving Services company for setting up a well-equipped training facility for drivers, he reiterated the need for all motorists to be trained and recertified once a year by the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute in any of its five centres located across the State.
