LAGOS URGES PHARMACISTS TO UPHOLD STANDARD PRACTICE

Lagos State Government has urged Pharmacists in the State to live above board and continue to deliver quality services to members of the public by upholding the highest standard of practice to guarantee stable health conditions of every resident of the State.

 

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris gave the counsel while speaking at the 2018 Pharmacy Week held at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), stressing that there is a potent link between quality healthcare and quality service delivery which requires pharmacists to make health services accessible to residents of the State.

 

Idris who was represented by the Director, Pharmaceutical Services, Ministry of Health, Dr. Moyosore Wuraola Adejumo said pharmacists provide a service to humanity and a commitment to ensure healthy living for all.

 

He advised pharmacists to always expand their knowledge of the profession as well as improve quality service delivery through adherence to global standards.

 

In his words, “I want you to continue to build bridges of experience and service. Don’t stay comfortable, rather you should aspire to greater heights in the practice. Strive to add value to life and humanity”.

 

While commending the Pharmacists, Idris charged them to embrace the strategy of unified teamwork in quality service delivery to optimize Governor Ambode’s vision of ensuring residents of the State are hale and hearty.

 

The Chief Medical Director, LASUTH, Prof. Adewale Oke said the Year 2018 Pharmacy week further brings to fore the life-saving services being rendered by pharmacists, describing them as instant responders to health needs of the citizenry.

 

Citing the need for improved service delivery, Oke encouraged pharmaceutical practitioners to devote time to research in identifying and proferring solutions to pressing health needs in the society.

 

In his keynote address with the theme: “Hospital Pharmacists and Better Patient Outcome”, the Country Manager, West Africa IQVIA, Pharm. Remi Adeseun said the cost of healthcare and the present economic situation had made it difficult for Pharmacists to thrive in the practice.

 

Adeseun used the occasion to encourage Lagosians to key-into the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme, stressing that the Insurance Scheme would help residents to access to quality healthcare.
