WORKPLACE SAFETY: LAGOS EMBARKS ON SENSITIZATION OF MDAs
The Lagos State Safety Commission has extended its safety sensitization tagged “Live Safe, Work Safe” to Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the State Government in line with the determination of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration to ensure safety at work.
The Director of Safety Training and Education of the Commission, Mr. Adeyinka Adebiyi, who led the Commission officials on the sensitization exercise reiterated the desire of the State Government to ensure that its residents are safe, both at home and at work.
He added that the Governor wants to reduce sudden death often caused by unsafe practices among public servants to the barest minimum, saying that “it is when you are safe that you will be productive, and that is the ultimate aim of this administration so we will continue to do series of sensitization and advocacy as stated in our mandate”.
Adebiyi advised the Ministry that the Safety Champions that were trained by the Commission should endeavour to always have safety moments during events and programmes as part of sensitization to ensure a safety culture in the workplace.
According to him, the Commission expects that at the end of the series of safety campaigns across all MDAs, the entire workforce of the State will be able to identify hazards, mitigate them and ensure safety both at home and in the workplace.
The sensitization which commenced on Wednesday at the Ministry of Home Affairs was in two sessions, Home Safety; Office Safety and had in attendance, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Toyin Awoseyi, top management staff and other personnel of the Ministry.
