LASG PARTNERS NSCDC ON ENVIRONMENTAL LAW ENFORCEMENT

The Lagos State Government has resolved to forge and enhance its partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for the purpose of effective enforcement of environmental laws in the State.

 

The State Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti made the disclosure while welcoming the Commandant, Lagos Command of the Civil Defense Corps Mr. Tajudeen Balogun on a courtesy visit to his Office in Alausa recently.

 

Durosinmi-Etti said that the enforcement of environmental laws was necessary to achieve a clean, healthy and sustainable environment as well as prevent epidemics as sanitation and environmental hygiene are non-negotiable prerequisites for a megacity like Lagos.

 

He stated that Lagos State had strengthened its regulatory Agencies such as the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) to enforce compliance with standards and regulations to curb all unsanitary behaviour.

 

The Commissioner informed that while monitoring, enforcement and compliance activities of the State had improved, the collaborative efforts of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps had been helpful considering the size and population of the State as well as the prevalence of Environmental abuses.

 

His words: “Through the support of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, we have achieved a lot over the years and we want to solicit more to achieve cleaner, healthier, safer and livable Lagos”.

 

Earlier,  the Lagos Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Tajudeen Balogun, who assured of his Commands unalloyed support for Lagos State Government, remarked that Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps is a concerned stakeholder in the bid to forestall environmental disasters through purposeful enforcement of environmental laws.

 

Balogun, therefore, commended the State Ministry of the Environment for its efforts in ensuring a healthier and cleaner environment devoid of any environmental infractions.
