WORKPLACE SAFETY: LAGOS SENSITIZES STAKEHOLDERS ON FIRE PREVENTION 

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Dr. Jemilade Longe has reemphasized the importance of adequate knowledge and understanding of workplace safety to prevent accidents.

 

Speaking at a Safety Advocacy and Sensitization Programme on Fire Prevention Design and Equipment Exhibition organised by the Lagos State Safety Commission, the Permanent Secretary maintained that safety of lives and property is paramount to the present administration.

 

According to him, the importance attached to safety issues necessitated the sensitization of members of the public on Wellness and Ergonomics, Fire Prevention, Emergency  Preparedness, Safety during rainy season and General Safety tips.

 

Dr. Longe said, “the Lagos State Safety Commission, in line with its mandate, will continue to sensitize stakeholders to ensure that safety becomes a culture among the citizenry and this will, in turn, reduce to the barest minimum accidents in workplaces and at home.”

 

The Permanent Secretary added that a safety-focused mindset should be integrated into the office culture through management, supervision and training on regular work duties and activities.

 

In his welcome address, the Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Hakeem Dickson explained that it has been discovered that there are series of safety lapses in the workplace hence, the need for periodic advocacy and sensitization of all relevant stakeholders.

 

He emphasized that the Lagos State Safety Commission will continue to fulfil its mandate by ensuring sustained safety training and sensitization of all stakeholders in the State.

 

Dickson added that the training will go a long way in ensuring that people become more aware of methods to prevent avoidable incidents and bring about zero injuries, zero harm, zero accidents, zero death in the workplace.
