The Lagos State Fire Service has flagged-off the Year 2018 evacuation drilling exercise for Lagos State public servants as part of measures put in place to curb the tide of incessant fire accidents and prevention of loss of lives and property.

The goal of the yearly exercise was aimed at inculcating safety consciousness and equipping the workers with basic fire safety information and tips.

The exercise, tagged; “Improving Safety Knowledge Of Public Officers”, was flagged off by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Dr. Jemilade Longe who lauded the move and reiterated the commitment of the State government to the safety of life and property of the entire residents of the State.

He described the exercise as timely considering the increasing rate of fire outbreaks in recent time in spite of periodic safety advocacy embarked upon by the government to alert residents on the need to take precautionary measures against preventable fire occurrences.

In his address on fire safety management, the Acting. Director Lagos Fire service, Rasaki Musibau disclosed that the exercise was a yearly event that exposes public servants to measures to take in handling emergencies and to further ensure that safety equipment domiciled in their various offices are in good condition.

According to him, effective knowledge of fire safety information would help reduce high percentage of fatalities, injuries and destruction of lives and property as well as a guide against indiscriminate loss of lives occasioned by carelessness and indiscipline acts.

The Fire boss advised the public not to undermine any fire outbreak no matter how small but to immediately contact fire service stations nearest to them or call the toll free number 767/112 for prompt response.

He urged the staff to share the knowledge acquired with their friends and families for the safety of all.

The staff were exposed to proper handling of fire safety tools, the importance of roll call during emergencies, use of emergency exit and many more.

The highlight of the event was the re-enactment of a fire scene, demonstration of the use of fire safety tools and question and answer segments.
