LASG SET TO REDEVELOP IPODO SLUM

Lagos State Government, through the State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) is set to redevelop Ipodo slum area in the heart of Ikeja.

The General Manager of LASURA, Mr. Lateef Sholebo, who disclosed this during an interview in Alausa, said the Ipodo slum was one of the 42 identified slums in the State and gazetted for redevelopment to transform the blighted community into a modern environment.

Sholebo said that the slum, located in the heart of Ikeja, made the aesthetics of the environment incompatible with modern structures within the neighbouring communities.

He noted that the blighted area made up of many dilapidated buildings and shanties was no more habitable, adding that the existing structures are being used as a hide-out by individuals who engage in criminal activities within the vicinity.

He hinted that the Agency would soon go into a partnership with reputable real estate investors to redevelop the slum after consultations with the concerned stakeholders before embarking on the rehabilitation project.
