LAGOS HOLDS PUBLIC SCHOOLS’ TRANSFER SCREENING TEST

Students seeking transfers for the 2018/2019 academic session into JSS.11& SS.I classes in Lagos State public schools sat, on Monday, for the screening test aimed at determining suitability for the class of their choice in state-owned schools.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Adebunmi Adekanye, who led a monitoring team to assess the conduct of the test which took place simultaneously in all the Six Education Districts of the State, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise and promised that the results would be released in good time to allow the successful students resume in their respective schools across the State at the beginning of the new academic session.

Responding to an enquiry from the Press, Adekanye opined that the crave for transfer was predicated on the improvement in the service delivery in public schools, stressing that this was underscored by the exemplary performance of public-school students in external examinations as well as in national and international competitions.

She added that the free education policy of the State Government was also an enticement for parents and guardians to transfer their wards from other schools to State-owned primary and secondary schools.

Also speaking at the Immaculate Hearts Comprehensive Senior School, one at the venues of the screening test, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mr. Abayomi Ebenezer Olusanya said 1,346 students sat for the examination in the district which has over 100 schools in the three local governments of Ikorodu, Shomolu and Kosofe. He revealed that admission will be based on the students’ performance, competence and the space available in schools for successful applicants.

Parents at the various Examination Centres, who spoke with the media team were thankful for the conduct of the examination; they expressed gratitude to the government for making the exercise transparent while providing a level playing ground for all interested students to compete for the available vacancies in public schools of their choice.
