YOUTH CORPS MEMBERS ARE AGENTS OF CHANGE FOR NEW NIGERIA – AMBODE

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has described NYSC members as agents of change and beacons of hope for a new Nigeria, reiterating that the human capital development of youths remains topmost on the agenda of the present administration and will continue to create the enabling environment for job and wealth creation.

Governor Ambode, who disclosed this today at the closing ceremony of the 2018 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Iyana Ipaja, Agege, Lagos, urged the Corps members to complement efforts of the Government and the NYSC by taking advantage of the training organised for their development under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) to become financially independent.

In his words, “I am delighted to note from reliable reports available to me, the exemplary conduct and commitment which you all demonstrated throughout the period of the orientation course. As agents of change and beacons of hope for a new Nigeria, it is imperative that you uphold this commendable trait in all your endeavours”.

Ambode, represented by the State Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Seye Oladejo at the event, enjoined the Corpers to remain good ambassadors of the NYSC and the country at large most especially in the forthcoming general elections.

“Dear compatriots, the major objective of the NYSC is to foster unity among the diverse ethnic groups of our great country through its vibrant youths. In the light of this, I encourage you to create visions and projects that will positively affect the lives of people in the host communities you would be posted to. I also enjoin you to remain good ambassadors of the NYSC and the country at large most especially in the forthcoming general elections in 2019 in which a large number of you would participate as ad-hoc staff”, he asserted.

He wished the Corps members a pleasant stay in Lagos State during the course of the one-year national assignment.

Earlier, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Prince Mohammed Momoh expressed gratitude to Governor Akinwumi Ambode for the allocation of land for the construction of a new orientation camp at Agbowa and for the unflinching support he has given to the scheme at all times.

He also implored the Governor to ensure the speedy construction of the new site in order to ameliorate the serious challenge of space constraints at the Agege facility.
