SUBEB HANDS OVER TWO REHABILITATED SCHOOLS IN EPE, SURULERE
In its bid to consolidate on the efforts of the present administration to provide qualitative basic education in a conducive atmosphere in the State, the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, on Monday, handed over the rehabilitated 40 classrooms, offices and toilets at Adebola Baptist Primary School, Surulere and 17 classrooms, offices and toilets at Luyepo Primary School, Epe.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Ganiyu Oluremi Sopeyin, represented at the event by a Board Member, Aremo Joseph Olusanya at Adebola Baptist Primary School, Surulere disclosed that Education remains the only legacy we can bequeath to our children since they are the livewire that powers the nation.
He described education as a venture that involves not only the government but parents, teachers, pupils and other stakeholders, saying that it is a venture that all parties involved must adhere to their roles in order to get the best dividend out of it.
According to him, Lagosians have witnessed a lot of positive transformation, ranging from massive construction of new schools, rehabilitation of dilapidated block of classrooms, employment of teachers, provision of furniture for pupils, students and staff, regular training and retraining of academic and non-academic staff, provision of learning materials for pupils, construction of fences and teachers’ welfare to mention a few in this present dispensation.
Dr. Sopeyin reiterated that the Board would continue to forge ahead to move the education sector forward by providing accessible and quantitative education in a conducive atmosphere.
“We shall also not relent in our collaborative efforts to make sure that all hands are on deck to move the sector forward”, he affirmed.
He urged stakeholders to make use of these facilities for the growth of education in the State, saying “Let me use this opportunity to enjoin all stakeholders, head teachers, other staff, pupils, parents/guardians to ensure adequate protection of this edifice from willful damage”.
Meanwhile, the Management of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has commended the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board for performing above board in the conduct of the National Personnel Audit Exercise aimed at collecting data from the Lagos State Public and Private Schools.
Speaking in Lagos on Monday during the visitation of the Management of the Commission to Lagos SUBEB, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi stated that the National Personnel Audit Exercise was a major activity in data gathering which is used in planning and development of education.
He stated that the Commission, led by its Chairman, Dr. Mamud Abubakar was in Lagos because a lot of progress and discoveries were made during the previous exercise.
According to him, the Commission discovered that there were more private primary schools in Lagos than in any State of the Federation while some Local Governments in the State have more primary schools in some other States combined.
Dr. Bobboyi said Lagos was very strategic in the process of having accurate data in order to plan and develop basic education in the country and affirmed that SUBEB has done a lot to make the previous Audit Exercise successful, stressing that a lot of problems relating to logistics and others were resolved by the commendable efforts of the Board.
