LAGOS TRAINS PUBLIC SERVANTS ON SAFETY

Public servants in Lagos State have been advised to make safety a lifestyle so that they can attain their full potentials in life.

The Director-General/CEO, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Hakeem Dickson gave the advice at a one-day Safety Training/Sensitisation programmeorganised by the Commission for Public Servants at the Adeyemi- Bero Auditorium, Alausa Ikeja.

Dickson explained that the mandate of the Commission includes ensuring the safety of lives and property in the State, therefore it became necessary to train public servants on the rudiments of safety because in his words “Charity Begins at Home”.

He said that there was a need to start from home, hence the training of public servants on safety at home, workplace and wherever they found themselves, adding that five officers from each MDA across the State were selected for the training.

The Director, Safety Training, Education and Skills Development department of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Adeyinka Adebiyi, lectured participants on various safety topics such as: The laws establishing safety in the State, Basic Safety, Health and Environment as well as how to identify hazards in workplaces, at home and public places.

Adebiyi said identification of hazards helps mitigate accidents and entrench safety in workplaces, adding that it also enhances the ability to control and remove danger.

“It is essential for all, especially public servants to be able to identify hazards in their environment and control such hazards using a standard hierarchy of hazard control”, he said.
