PUBLIC SERVANTS CHARGED TO SUPPORT CREATIVITY, INNOVATION
Public Servants in the State have been urged to assist in activating the culture of creativity and innovation by supporting the Constituted Committee on Creativity and Innovation in their various MDAs in order to fast track the Smart City aspiration of the State.
The Director-General, Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation (OTCI), Mr. Toba Otusanya gave the charge while addressing the Constituted Committees on Creativity and Innovation from various MDAs during their pre-implementation Stakeholders’ Engagement at the Secretariat, Alausa.
Otusanya who was represented at the event by the Deputy Director, Creativity and Innovation (C&I), Mrs. Toyin Anjous-Ademuyiwa said in line with the Growth Mindset Development Programme, the need arose to take the programme to the next level through the inauguration of a support group in the various MDAs known as the Constituted Committee on Creativity and Innovation, to assist the C&I Ambassadors in achieving the Growth Mindset objectives.
He added that the purpose of the pre-implementation stakeholders’ engagement was to ensure that all stakeholders were on the same page with regards to their workflow, roles and responsibilities, reporting line and other issues needed for the successful implementation of the Growth Mindset Development Programme.
According to him, having carefully selected members of the Constituted Committees from various MDAs, Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas to drive the C & I Initiative and take ownership of same in their MDAs, the need to monitor and ensure that expectations were met was also important.
Explaining the rationale behind the Constituted Committee, the DG said it was also informed by the need to ensure that creative and innovative ideas from both Private and Public sectors were well coordinated, protected and addressed appropriately while providing the necessary support to the C&I Ambassadors.
He emphasised that the Constituted Committee requires the support of every member of staff to engender proper review of identified innovative ideas as well as the Agency’s processes that will generate solutions to various challenges that hamper improved service delivery in their MDAs.
To be a member of the Constituted Committee, the DG said, the selected personnel must be able to take on challenges; be passionate about transforming the Public Service; have the ability to persuade people to share their ideas; possess strong interpersonal skills; have the ability to think freely; demonstrate strong will and a sense of ownership; and possess an analytical and problem solving skills.
Commending the Ambassadors and the Constituted Committee members for the professionalism exhibited thus far, Otusanya challenged them to put in their best in actualising the mandates of their MDAs while also assuring them of OTCI’s support.
“87 Agencies and 143 Ambassadors have so far made it to the first phase; however, Agencies that did not make it to the first phase would be accommodated in the 2nd phase”, he said.
