SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT: LAGOS TO SUPPORT BUSINESSES WITH MODERN TECHNOLOGY

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has promised financial support to young businesses that demonstrate the capacity to take up new business and technological solutions modelled on profitability and environmental friendliness.

The Governor, who was represented at the event by his Deputy, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, stated that there is need to promptly implement policies, strategies and programmes involving all strata of society, promising to collaborate with major industrial establishments in finding immediate solutions to environmental hazard generated by their activities.

Speaking at the Environment Forum organised by PAN AFRICAN CAPITAL HOLDINGS held at the Oriental Hotel, Ikoyi, the Governor said: “We owe it as a responsibility to our future to promote policies, strategies and business models that will ensure the sustenance of an environment that will continue to provide support for our lives, our businesses and the future of humanity”.

Sanwo-Olu noted that “Development in itself is no longer what is desirable, it must pass the sustainability test in terms of its impact on the environment and the ecosystem”.

Listing areas of action as including renewable energy, waste recycling, emissions and packaging, he called for the development of alternatives to plastic bottles and non-degradable items which is a significant environmental pollutant.

He further disclosed plans to undertake waste sorting for households as well as the provision of bags for bottles, kitchen wastes and other items, emphasising that waste sorting has potentials for economic growth by way of providing employment opportunities.

While noting that the present administration will collaborate with the private sector to berth new frontiers in a sustainable environment, Sanwo-Olu commended the leadership and management of PAN African Capital for their commitment to environmental issues beyond their primary private business interest.

Earlier, the Chairman of Pan African Capital Holdings, Dolapo Atekoja said the hosting of the event themed “The Earth, Our Business, Our Future” was to draw attention to issues of the environment as it will impact the environment of business.

He said the array of experts invited also points to his company’s commitment to the environment, health issues, education and economic empowerment.
