LASEMA/NSCDC STRENGHTEN COLLABORATION ON EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) is committed to
improving emergency/disaster management through collaboration and
harmonious relationship as well as partnering on new innovation with
relevant stakeholders to mitigate emergency.

The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA)
Mr. Michael Akindele disclosed this on Tuesday during a working visit
to the Lagos State Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps
in Alausa.

According to the General Manager, the innovation and collaboration is
in line with the vision of the present administration to improve
safety of lives and properties, which is poised towards enlarging the
scope with relevant stakeholders such as the Nigeria Security & Civil
Defence Corps in curbing activities such as crowd control, improved
search and rescue with the use of sniffer dogs during recovery
operation at scene of collapsed building.

Akindele noted that one of the major challenges during emergency is
the issue of on-lookers who are always in the habit of taking
photographs thereby hampering the emergency workers from carrying out
their duties, he therefore solicited the assistant of the Commandant
on crowd control during emergency.

The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State
Command, Mr. Tajudeen Balogun, noted that emergency is not peculiar to
the State alone but Lagos is always the pace setter in almost
everything.

He therefore commended the Agency and the Lagos State Government in
providing prompt and adequate response as well as sustaining
intervention in all forms of emergencies and disasters in the State.

Tajudeen Balogun therefore promised that the Command will maintain a
24 hours relationship and not just as an ordinary stakeholder, but as
principal stakeholder through the instrument of the Intelligence
Department in gathering information and deployment of technical
support such as sniffer dogs for adequate and prompt intervention
during emergency/disaster in the State.
