PSSDC UNVEILS “BOOK OF READINGS”
…AS HoS COMMENDS CENTRE FOR NURTURING FORMIDABLE PUBLIC SERVANTS
The Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs. Olabowale Ademola has unveiled a collection of books published by the State Public Service Staff Development Centre, PSSDC Magodo, tagged: “PSSDC Book of Readings”, expressing satisfaction with the leadership provided by the Centre over the years.
Mrs. Ademola, who commended the feat the Centre has attained under the leadership of the outgoing Director-General of the Centre, Mrs. Olubunmi Fabamwo, described the publication as a very significant accomplishment in the history of the Centre.
Represented by the General Manager of Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mr. Fatai Onafowote at the book presentation and recognition of past CEOs of PSSDC ceremony, the Head of Service maintained that PSSDC remains the pillar in capacity building of the State’s public servants.
While assuring participants at the event that the “PSSDC Book of Readings” would in no small measure contribute to capacity building, aid research works and serve as reference point for intellectual activities in future, Mrs. Ademola urged the Centre to sustain its good legacies of providing leadership in public service capacity development.
Giving an overview of the publication, the outgoing Director-General of the Centre, Mrs. Olubunmi Fabamwo said that the book is a compilation of different views and salient issues that are germane to public good and services.
According to her, PSSDC Book of Readings was designed as a modest contribution by the Centre to learning for all public servants and public service stakeholders.
She said that although the Centre has distinguished itself over the years as a practical based training centre with more of experiential study by experienced practitioners, the publication of PSSDC Book of Readings would complement the efforts of the Centre in also serving as a theoretical framework and reference point.
Fabamwo maintained that not much could have been achieved in the State Public Service in general without a well-trained staff, adding that ‘what PSSDC does is not mere training but transformation of lives.”
“This publication contains Nuggets, intellectual thoughts, work of some notable academia and many more useful materials that are highly recommended for all public servants as well as all public service stakeholders”, the Director-General stated.
The event which was held to mark the end of Mrs. Fabamwo’s eight-year tenure as the Director-General of PSSDC also witnessed the presentation of awards to past Chief Executive Officers of the Centre who had provided good leadership for the centre in the past.
Responding on behalf of other former CEOs, the pioneer Director-General of the Centre and a former Registrar of Lagos State University, LASU, Mrs. Jacinta Olusoga appreciated those that served the centre in the capacity of DGs after her, for sustaining the vision for the establishment of the Centre.
Recalling how she wrote the blueprint for the establishment of the PSSDC some years ago and how the proposal was accepted by the State House of Assembly without any objection, Olusoga nostalgically affirmed that the Centre was established on a very firm foundation.
She challenged public servants not to prioritise the desire to amass wealth through the offices they occupy but should instead see every opportunity to lead as a privilege to faithfully give their total commitment to humanity and God.
