LASTVEB BOSS URGES STUDENTS TO EMBRACE TECHNICAL EDUCATION
The Executive Secretary of Lagos State Technical Vocational Education Board, LASTVEB, Mrs. Omolara Erogbogbo has advocated the acquisition of technical education as a way of bridging the unemployment gap as well as addressing skills deficit in the country, saying that the era when vocational education was believed to be undertaken by school drop-outs and pushovers was over.
She made this known at a recent press conference on advocacy for technical and vocational Education and assessment of the activities of LASTVEB.
According to her, LASTVEB has recorded increased applications and enrolment into its five technical colleges over the years due to its practical approach to vocational training, adding that the State has commenced steps to establish additional colleges to accommodate the increasing number of students.
Citing the records of success of past students of the various vocational colleges owned by the State Government, Erogbogbo expressed confidence that technical education remains the surest path to remain financially self-independent.
She said that there should be a cursory shift of attention to the area of skills acquisition in order to address the problem of increasing criminal activities in the country which is largely occasioned by joblessness and desperation for white-collar jobs.
Erogbogbo added that the Lagos State Government has adopted public-private partnership model as a major policy-thrust of the present administration to explore opportunities in all sectors of the State, towards the delivery of social goods and services to the people.
