LAGOS REITERATES COMMITMENT TO PROVIDE FREE LEGAL SERVICES

The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazzeem has reiterated Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s commitment to providing free legal services to all residents in the State.

The Commissioner disclosed this today in Ikeja at the Legal Clinic and        Advisory Day workshoporganised by the Public Advice Center (PAC), an agency under the Ministry, to sensitize, create awareness as well as provide legal assistance to the people of Lagos State on a wide range of issues.

He, therefore, enjoined members of the public in distress and those seeking information on their legal rights to come forward, affirming that the State Government is ready to fight for the rights of its citizens and ensure justice is done, adding that the present administration has zero tolerance for all forms of criminal activities.

According to him, “PAC serves as the first port of call for members of the public in distress and those seeking information on their legal rights and responsibilities. It is also as an interface that provides information and legal advice to members of the public.”

While noting that the Centre is manned by competent lawyers, administrative and support staff who are adequately skilled to render on-the-spot legal assistance, Kazeem urged everyone to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the State Government through the Agency.

Also speaking at the event, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Funlola Odunlami, said that easy access to justice from the grassroots has been one of the major policy of the State Government.

She said over the years, PAC has recorded tremendous achievements in providing information, advisory and referral services on several matters bothering on violation of human rights, work benefit/pension, family and inheritance, domestic violence/sexual offences, debt and monetary claims, employee/employer matters, amongst others.
