LAGOS SET TO BUILD TRAINING CENTRE, HALL FOR WOMEN

Lagos State Government is set to build a Caregiver Training Centre, Multi – Purpose Hall and more Skill Acquisition Centres specifically for women in the State to upscale their socio-economic wellbeing.

 

Hon. Lola Akande, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation made the disclosure during the ongoing 2017 Ministerial Press Briefing in commemoration of the Second Year In Office of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode as Governor Lagos State at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa.

 

She explained that the Care-Givers Training Centre will be used to train people on issues concerning women, the Multi – Purpose Hall will be used for social functions while the new Skill Acquisition Centres will augment the existing 17 functional ones in existence and being supervised by the Ministry.

 

On the activities of the Ministry, Akande stated that 2,023 Women have been trained on different vocations through the Short Term Skill Acquisition Programme; it also graduated 12,353 students from the Ministry’s Skill Acquisition Centres spread across the State.

 

The Commissioner also revealed that the State government, through the Ministry, has empowered 3845 Women, trained over 200 Rural Women on snail and grass-cutter rearing, established 30 hectares of cassava and other crops for the training of Rural Women in Agricultural production and processing amongst other achievements.

 

On planned projects and targets before the end of the year, Akande said the Ministry is determined to conclude the construction of projects such as the Ibeshe Garri Processing Centre, Cold Room, Market Stalls and Viewing Centres; Ibeshe Skill Acquisition Centre with a capacity to train 600 students; Construction of 2 fibre boats for people in Riverine Areas; Renovation of the 40 Rooms Guest House managed by Blossom Group Hotel at the Women Development Centre as well as the Skill Acquisition and Digital Training for Women,WAPA Connect Conference.
