LASPARK INTENSIFIES CAMPAIGN ON TREE PLANTING

In its bid to promote informal sector awareness on the importance of tree planting and pruning in the State, the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) has staged its statewide awareness campaign walk and sensitisation seminar in Badagry Division of Lagos.

Speaking at the One-Day seminar held at the Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area, the General Manager of the Agency, Mrs. Abimbola Jijoho-Ogun urged participants to imbibe the attitude of planting trees as landmark for historical events in their lives.

She said the sensitisation walks and seminars are to enlighten and encourage Lagosians on the importance and responsibility of preserving nature, saying that, “Trees have been good to us by providing oxygen which sustains us and as such it is our responsibility to nurture and plant more trees in the environment.”

While emphasising that it is a criminal offence to fell trees in the State without seeking permission from LASPARK, the General Manager stated that when people refuse to plant trees, they reduce biological diversity and cheat posterity.

In his goodwill message, the Head of Administration of Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr. Kolawole Olawuni applauded the efforts of the State Government at providing parks and gardens across the State for recreation purposes.

He further encouraged participants to imbibe the knowledge gained from the seminar by planting trees in their homes and environment.
