IRU/VICTORIA ISLAND RESIDENTS URGED TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF PUBLIC FACILITIES

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has implored residents of Iru/Victoria Island residents to take ownership of public facilities provided in their domain.

Governor Ambode, who was represented by the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Olawale Oluwo gave the advice at the commissioning of the street light project in Kofo Abayomi Street in Victoria Island, Lagos.

He said the street light project is just one of the numerous projects being commissioned in five different areas including Badagry, Amuwo Odofin, Alimosho, Epe.

“In continuation of the Light up Lagos project, the State is commissioning street lights in five different areas of the State simultaneously in Badagry, Alimosho, Amuwo Odofin, Epe and here in Victoria Island.  More importantly is the fact that the State has taken a deliberate decision to light up adjourning areas to bus stops, shopping malls, hotels and other major facilities to reduce the level of crime in those areas as well as improve the economy value of nightlife in the axis,”  the Governor said.

While handing over the street light facility to the Sole Administrator of Iru/Victoria Island Local Council Development Authority, Mrs. Aderemi Adebowale, the community leaders were also urged to take ownership of the street light project against vandals and theft by always reporting suspected activities around the facilities to nearest security agencies.

The residents were also implored to report any fault noticed in the facility to the State Electricity Board for prompt repair.
