LAGOS EARMARKS N13B FOR SPORTS DEVELOPMENT

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Sports, Mr. Ayodeji Tinubu has, at the ongoing 2017 Ministerial Briefing, disclosed that the sum of N13billion has been budgeted for sports development in Lagos State for the year 2017.

 

He explained that out of this sum, N9.6 billion was earmarked for the renovation of sporting facilities, while N3 billion was allocated for the development of sports in the State.

 

The Special Adviser, who doubles as the Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, said the State government is keen on renovating the National Stadium, Surulere, as part of efforts to attract sporting activities as well as bring the Super Eagles back to their familiar territory.

 

His words: “Lagos is interested and the Governor is creating initiative for the people to enjoy the best of facility. We hope to renovate the national stadium and bring back the Super Eagles. As we are prepared to do that, adequate facility must be provided.”

 

The State, according to Tinubu, is also prepared to construct sport facilities in Epe, Ajegunle and Ikorodu, while the existing ones in Rowe Park, Ijede, Amutan and Onikan stadium will be renovated.

 

Tinubu also revealed that talks are ongoing with boxers, Larry Ekundayo and Segun Ajose, who are indigenes of the State to host their title fights before the end of the year.

 

He expressed his delight with the successful hosting of FCB Escola Lagos, Schoolimpics, Monopoly, the Lagos Marathon and Second Africa Beach Soccer Nations Cup among others in the State.
