LASG RESTATES COMMITMENT TO WORKERS’ WELFARE
The Lagos State Government has again restated its commitment to workers’ welfare in line with the determination of the present administration to develop a result-oriented Public Service with efficient and effective Pension Administration.
The State Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson Oke, disclosed this at the ongoing 2017 Ministerial Press briefing in commemoration of the second year anniversary of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration.
He said the State government is on a mission to develop a virile workforce with satisfying post-service life through the sustenance of ethical values and effective career and pension management.
It is in view of this, the Commissioner noted, that the Ambode-led administration has made and sustained continued a significant reduction in the outstanding backlog of terminal entitlements of retired employees statewide within a 9 month period after being sworn-in.
He said, “The Lagos State Government through Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) has paid over N11billion into the Retirement Savings Account (RSA) of 2,886 retirees from the Local Government and Lagos State Universal Basic Education (LSUBEB), Teachers Pension Office (TEPO), the Mainstream Service and 11 Parastatals between May 2016 and May 2017”.
He stated further that in line with Government determination and commitment towards workers’ training and career progression, Structured Training Programme of 65 Ministries, Departments and Agencies has been appraised and processed for the Governor’s approval to enable the MDAs to access their training vote for the year 2017.
Benson-Oke added that 108 officers were also sponsored to Local training centres for career enhancement programmes while 2,095 application for further studies recommended for approval were duly ratified by the Civil Service Commission with approval letters issued accordingly, and 84 officers sponsored to the Federal Training Centre for career-enhancing programmes amongst others.
The Commissioner affirmed that the Public Service Staff Development Centre implemented a total of 24 courses for 768 participants in the year 2016.
