AMBODE COMMISSIONS OJODU BERGER BRIDGES AND ROADS

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has commissioned the pedestrian bridges, laybys and slip roads at Ojodu Berger axis of the State and reiterated his administration’s commitment resolving the traffic problems common in every part of Lagos

 

The Governor said, “At the inception of this administration in May 2015, the traffic situation at the Ojodu Berger axis was one of the challenges we identified as requiring urgent attention. This decision was informed by the strategic importance of this axis being a major gateway into our State.”

 

Ambode stressed that the primary aim of embarking on the project was to ensure free flow of traffic along the express road, safeguard the lives of people who had to cross the road as well as use the project to promote the image of Lagos to visitors as a truly global city.

 

He added that he is so delighted that the State government has  not only succeeded in transforming the landscape of this axis; but the slip road, laybys and pedestrian bridges, will also give new and pleasant experience to all entering and exiting the State.

 

“This project is the product of our innovative team of engineers, architects and town planners who have worked hard to create an innovative solution to tackle the challenges of this axis. I say a big thank you to the staff of the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and the contractors handling the project CCECC Nigeria Limited for a job well done”, Ambode declared.

 

Earlier, the supervising Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Adebowale Akinsanya said, “For a long time, crossing from one side of the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway to the other at Berger Bus stop had been a nightmare for pedestrians because of lack of a footbridge. This situation was also compounded by commercial transporters’ frequent stops for passengers on the road. But all these will be a thing of the past with this structure”.

 

Akinsanya further said that the Ojodu Berger Pedestrian Bridge is a major life saving structure designed to stop avoidable loss of lives at the Berger end of Lagos-Ibadan expressway. It is also to mitigate and decongest traffic at the area with the provision of laybys and slip road that takes commercial vehicles off the main carriageway.
