LAGOS ACCOUNTANT-GENERAL ADVOCATES INNOVATION IN PUBLIC SERVICE

Lagos State Accountant General, Mrs. Abimbola Umar has called on accountants in the employ of the State Government to be more creative in managing the State’s finances.

Umar who made the call recently during an interactive session with Directors of Accounts in the State Public Service, charged them to think outside the box by being proactive and innovative in discovering areas that will boost revenue generation in the State.

She said “the era of debit and credit accounting is over” and therefore called on accountants to raise the bar of excellence and assume the position of financial advisers in addition to their regular accounting duties.

The Accountant-General urged them to imbibe the culture of regular research into new trends in the accounting world.

She remarked that “Lagos is metamorphosing from a Mega City into a Smart City, hence the need for a smart city approach to acceptable accountability procedures”.

Therefore, she harped on the need to improve on revenue generation, block all avenues of revenue of leakage and also identify new revenue generation areas in their respective MDAs.
