MOE PARTNERS LASU ON ENVIRONMENTAL REGENERATION

The Commissioner for The Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare has disclosed that his Ministry is partnering with the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo on environmental management and sustainability through its Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development.

 

Adejare revealed this during a recent courtesy call by the management of the Ministry of The Environment to the Vice Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun.

 

He said that it had become necessary for the University to get involved in finding solutions to societal problems, particularly in the environment sector, stressing that part of the vision of its founders was to supply solutions to problems in the society.

 

According to him, “the gown had driven development in notable places like Boston, Harvard and Lancaster; this obviously is not beyond us, we too can make our own LASU drive development in Lagos State.”

 

Adejare assured that the Environment Ministry would soon set up a committee to steer the envisaged relationship into fruition.

 

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun stated that Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development was conceptualised as a think-tank for the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) in the area of pollution control and management and that the centre would be more than willing to fulfil that vision now that the Ministry of The Environment was offering a relationship.

 

He therefore called for a major environmental summit to kick start the relationship, stressing that he could not wait to see students become consistent advocates of various laudable initiatives of Lagos State Government in environmental management.
