LASG REITERATES ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CHILD ABUSE

The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Education Quality Assurance, has reiterated its commitment to zero tolerance for child abuse and child molestation.

The Director General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo stated this during the courtesy visit to the Agency by the Executive Members of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Lagos State Chapter.

Mrs. Soyombo commended the State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluranti Idiat Adebule for her support and commitment to the protection of the girl child from abuse and improving the lots of learners in private and public schools in the State by mandating school owners to make child protection policy a priority as well as educating parents against child neglect to avoid child abuse.

She said the State Ministry of Education and the Office has ensured the safety and security of our children against abuse and other crimes through the creation and maintenance of a safe school environment for students.

According to her, “The Office of Education Quality Assurance, supports the Ministry of Education in its monitoring function and is set out to surpass expectations and standards for education in the State through striving for educational excellence by building morals, discovering and developing talents, supporting the gifted and training learners in basic skills across schools in the State”.

The Director-General commended the NANS team for standing against indecent dressing and other vices in higher institutions of learning, adding that the Agency is ready to give them the necessary support to curb indecent behaviours and uphold moral values among the youths in tertiary institutions.

Speaking earlier, Comrade Moses Samson Adewale, President of NANS, Lagos, acknowledged the enormous contribution of the State Government to education since the inception of the present administration in 2015.

He noted that the purpose of their visit is to solicit for the government assistance through the Agency on their plan to come up with a panacea to rape, indecent dressing, examination malpractice, prostitution, homosexuality and sexual abuse in higher institutions of learning.
