POLLS: LAGOS DEPUTY GOVERNOR COMMENDS LAGOSIANS

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule has commended Lagosians for their peaceful conduct before, during and after the LG polls conducted by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) across the State.

Adebule noted that the political maturity displayed by the electorate during the exercise was an indication that democracy has been generally accepted as the best form of government, adding that it was a good departure from previous violence, ballot snatching and other vices associated with elections in the country.

The Deputy Governor, who was accompanied by her husband Alhaji Saheed Adebule, cast her vote at Ward A, Polling Unit 013, Iba Local Council Development Area at exactly 10am.

While commending voters for defying the heavy downpour to exercise their civic duty, Adebule attributed the low turnout of voters in some polling units to the early rains but was optimistic that people would come out to exercise their voting rights after the downpour.

She said the good governance being enjoyed in the State has really raised people’s consciousness on why they should elect those to represent them at the grassroots.

In her words, “The rain is one of the reasons we are witnessing low turnout in Iba LCDA, but in my opinion, the turnout has been impressive and am very optimistic that people will soon come out later in the day to cast their votes. And I want to use this opportunity to call on our citizens who are yet to come out and perform their civic duties to be a part of this exercise”.

The Deputy Governor stated that the all-inclusive governance run by the present administration has exposed Lagosians to participatory democracy where everyone is a stakeholder in decision making about government machinery.

She urged voters to maintain good and orderly conduct throughout the exercise, stressing that violence due to political party differences would not take the State anywhere.

Mrs. Adebule also commended the various security operatives for ensuring peaceful conduct of the elections by enforcing the restriction order, adding that security personnel engaged for the exercise justified the confidence reposed in them.

 

“There were policemen and other security operatives at polling units, while restricted vehicular and people movement was strictly observed, which has contributed in no small measure to the success of this exercise’’, Adebule stated.
