LAGOS WATER CORPORATION URGES RESIDENTS TO SUPPORT METERING EXERCISE

The Lagos Water Corporation has urged residents of the State to support the ongoing metering exercise recently embarked upon by the Corporation to ensure accurate and efficient billing of water consumed by customers, control water wastages and encourage water conservation.

In a statement issued today by the Office of the Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Badmus, the exercise is in line with the ongoing strategy to improve public water supply in the State.

The release noted that the exercise has so far covered Lekki, Victoria Island, Victoria Island Annex, Surulere, Itire, Iwaya and Yaba/Ebute Metta, Magodo, Ikeja, MKO Abiola Gardens.

 

It, however, warned that the government-owned prepaid meters being installed in some properties should not be tampered with or vandalized, citing an incident where the Corporation’s staff were harassed and hindered from installing meters on property in Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi.

 

“For the avoidance of doubt, the law permits the Corporation to refuse supply of water to any particular premises that prevent meter installation. Anyone caught in the act of illegal water connection and tampering with meters will face a minimum one-year imprisonment with an option of ₦100,000 fine or both, and a maximum one-year imprisonment with an option of ₦250,000 fine or both”, the statement added.

The statement, therefore, urged members of the public to desist from this unlawful act and support the exercise in order to ensure uninterrupted water supply to all residents of the State.
