LASRAB TO PARTNER OBJ PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY FOR RECORDS MANAGEMENT

The team of the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau, LASRAB, led by its Director-General, Mr. Biodun Onayele paid a working visit to the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, OOPL, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB) is set to partner the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) for record keeping and archival management towards ensuring the maintenance of a modern and credible information warehouse in the State, just as it reiterated its commitment to collaborate with all willing private and public organizations.

The Director-General Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB), Mr. Biodun Onayele disclosed this during a working visit to Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Abeokuta, Ogun State.

According to him, the visit will afford the Bureau have first-hand information about the library, fashion out various areas of partnership and provide an avenue for exploring new vista of public-private partnership in the management of records and information for the development of Lagos State.

The Director-General noted that LASRAB, as an emerging world-class public records and archives institution, desires to establish sound records\archives management system aimed at achieving her vision of being a first-class global information repository and data bank of the State.

The DG stated that the Bureau has finalized an arrangement to spread its tentacles to all the nooks and crannies of Lagos State in order to encourage the communities to write their history for keeps in the Bureau.

Earlier, the Chief Coordinator of the Library and former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (GCFR) expressed delight for the visit and assured the team of a robust relationship and partnership in value\knowledge sharing, management and preservation of records and archives between the two organizations.

He also commended the Lagos State Government in the area of records keeping, stating that “Lagos State is one of the few States that takes matters affecting record keeping and archival management seriously amongst other States of the Federation’.

Chief Obasanjo also expressed the need for archival institutions to embark on documentation of the history of various communities across the Country as part of the responsibilities of preserving the past, capturing the present to inspire the future for proper records keeping and archival management.
