LAGOS STATE COMMENDED AS 2017 SET OF STUDENT NURSES MATRICULATE

 The Coordinator, Lagos State School of Nursing Complex, Igando, Mrs. Oyefunso Orenuga has commended government efforts in the area of the healthcare services delivery in the State.

Oyenuga, who gave the commendation during the capping and strapping ceremony of the year 2017 set of Student Midwives ceremony in Lagos, observed that Lagos State is performing creditably well in the healthcare service delivery compared to other States in Nigeria.

She said the menace of child and maternal mortality has been reduced considerably because of the high priority placed on the adequate training of Midwives as well as the swift completion and equipping of the permanent hostel of the students.

On her part, the Head, School of Midwifery, represented by Mrs. Urji Urenna applauded the young student Nurses/Midwives for the successful completion of the first year, describing it as an achievement and readiness to assume additional responsibilities in their quest to become full-fledged Nurses/Midwives.

According to her, “capping and strapping are done after successful completion of the first year, first semester (first six months of the programme) which is also referred to as the Preliminary Training Session (PTS) equivalent to matriculation in the University. After which each student’s particulars are forwarded to Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for recognition as student Midwives in Nigeria (INDEXING)”.

She thanked the present administration for granting approval for the take-off of the yearly Mandatory Community Services for the Midwives saying, the first set of the Midwives from the School started the programme in January 2018.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Nurses & Midwives, Lagos Chapter – Comrade Olurotimi Awojide – who is also the first male midwife in Nigeria commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his commitment to the welfare and health of the citizenry especially the Student Nurses and Midwives.
