LAGOS HoS CHARGES AUDITORS ON INTERNATIONAL BEST PRACTICES
The Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs. Folashade Adesoye has charged the State Audit Commission to adopt International best practices in modern human resource management in the fulfilment of its mandate and pursuit of government policy objectives.
Mrs. Adesoye said this today at the opening ceremony of the 3rd Annual Retreat of the Lagos State Audit Service Commission themed, “Managing the Expectation And Needs of Public Service Auditors in the Current Dispensation”, and held at the Golfview Hotel, GRA Ikeja.
According to her, it is germane to adopt the latest Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools while staying abreast with the fast-moving frontiers of Audit training techniques worldwide.
She said that the choice of the theme for the retreat is timely, considering the size and focus of the Lagos State’s 2018 budget and critical role of the audit function in the successful realization of the lofty goals and ambitious policy objectives as set out by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in his 2018 Budget address.
The Head of Service stated further that the effectiveness of the audit function in the current dispensation is not only related, but also directly dependent on how effectively the State Audit Service Commission fulfils its mandates.
She, however, affirmed that the primary objective of the government in establishing the State Audit Service Commission was to facilitate the effective, efficient and more coordinated management of the progression of Auditors in the Public Service.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Audit Service Commission, Mr. Waliu Onibon said that the commission was established for the purpose of independently and professionally managing the careers of public service Auditors, with a view to ensuring probity and accountability in the deployment of financial resources of government for the benefit of Lagosians.
Mr. Onibon said, though, the responsibilities placed on the Commission are enormous, they are not insurmountable, adding that the Commission will strive harder to achieve its core statutory responsibilities.
He, therefore, implored the facilitators to do justice to the topics which have been carefully selected to remind the auditors about their responsibilities, enable them to have a better comprehension of government expectations and improve emotional intelligence in the course of their duties.
