LASG TRAINS TOWN PLANNERS ON MODERN TECHNOLOGY
The General Manager, Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority Tpl. Funmi Osifuye has urged town planners in the service of State Government to avail themselves of modern technology to put Lagos on the pedestal of other smart cities of the world.
The General Manager, who stated this on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of an in-house Training Programme for Town Planners at Ikeja, said that as the State moves gradually from a megacity to a smart city, it needs a well-planned and orderly physical development as one of its basic criteria.
According to Osifuye, this feat could only be achieved through professional planners particularly the field officers being trained, noting that, aside the major function of processing and issuance of Planning Permit, the Authority was also saddled with the Preparation of Development Guide Plans; Data Collection, Collation and Documentation as well as Archiving & Retrieval of granted Planning Permits amongst others.
Speaking earlier, Tpl. Lateef Oladeinde, an Assistant Director in the Development Permit Department envisaged that the Training tagged: “Field Data Collection Manual for Kosofe and Mainland Infrastructural Geo-Mapping Project” would enhance and improve the knowledge of participants, adding that more officers would also be trained after the conclusion of the first batch comprising 20 officers.
The Training Programme is the first in the series of planned training programmes to expose the planners to requisite skill and knowledge with special focus on Project Design among others subjects.
