LASG SOLICITS PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITY

The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District IV, Mrs. Lola Are-Adegbite has appealed to the general public to key-in to government agenda of an all-inclusive society by supporting children living with any form of disabilities.

Speaking at Valentine’s Day Party/Exhibition for children with special needs at State Junior Grammar School, Yaba, she said every child is important in their own right and deserve to be loved, cared for and supported.

While noting that neglecting a child because of one form of disability will make such a child feel insecure, especially when derogatory remarks are uttered to describe the child, she said such indiscriminate actions all signal outright rejection of the child’s personality.

“It is true that every child has the right to grow, learn and be supported by everybody around him, regardless of their differences. Experience has shown that when a child with a special need is supported, the child will be able to carry himself with dignity and high self-esteem”, she said.

The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary stated that the occasion is to affirm the saying that there is the ability in disability and showcase various abilities possessed by the children.

Are-Adegbite urged the students to remain dedicated to their academics while being hopeful to God who will make his divine purpose fulfilled in their lives at his (God) predestined time.

Earlier, the Principal of State Senior Grammar School, Mrs. Olukemi Osude said such a day is important to celebrate inherent abilities of special children as it exhibits Governor Ambode’s all-inclusive policy in Lagos State.

She noted that the school has been developing both the academic and vocational skills of children with special needs who displayed their products in tailoring, catering, hairdressing, barbing, shoe-making, carpentry, bead making and fine arts.

Osude also appealed to the public to embrace children with disabilities, stating that all they need is love, care and affection to believe in themselves.
