LASG COMMENDED FOR YORUBA PRESERVATION LAW

The Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide (YCYW), a non-governmental coalition of various Yoruba Indigenous Youths and Student Organizations in Nigeria and Diaspora, has commended the State Government for the recent enactment of the Lagos State Yoruba Preservation Law 2018.

A statement jointly signed by the president of YCYW, Aremo Oladotun Hassan and the General Secretary, Comrade Israel Akintola noted that the State Government’s action was in line with the vision and mission of the Council to promote Yoruba cultural heritage, peace and unity in consonance with the Awoism ideology.

“We are full of pride and resounding heart of appreciation to the Lagos State Government’s pivotal roles towards the development and sustenance of the Yoruba cultural heritage and values and we hope the other Southwestern States will emulate the good gesture of the Lagos State Government,” the statement added.

It called on all stakeholders especially traditional institutions, mass media and political leaders in Yoruba land to ensure that the pride of place of promoting the language is not devalued and relegated to the background.

The statement averred that the Yoruba Preservation Law of the State Government will further add value and bring to the fore the Omoluabi ideology and principles which the Council noted is fast eroding into oblivion, thus, the council urged the family as a unit to ensure that the Yoruba Culture is jealously preserved, cherished and guided by parents.

“We decry declining value system as a result of the immoral societal incursion bandwagon via the so-called western civilization; invariably this has killed the Omoluabi ethos, hence the need to commend the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for the enactment of the Lagos State Yoruba Preservation Law 2018”, the statement added.
