LASPPPA, LASBCA EMBARK ON JOINT ENFORCEMENT OF BUILDING LAW

The two enforcement Agencies under the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, the Lagos Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) and Lagos Building Control Agency (LASBCA), have embarked on a joint enforcement exercise to entrench the law for a sustainable, safe, secure, functional, business and tourism friendly environment across the metropolis.

 

Speaking on the exercise, General Manager LASPPPA, Tpl. Funmi Osifuye stated the joint enforcement by the two sister agencies is part of efforts to rid Lagos State of contraventions, infractions and give impetus to the present administration’s zero-tolerance stance for building collapse.

 

He explained that the three-day exercise covering Ikeja axis and environs would involve the street-to-street issuance of notices for auditing of buildings and contraventions which include illegal conversion, noncompliance with an approved permit, etc.

 

Osifuye, therefore, enjoined Lagosians to avail themselves of the six-month grace period offer which allows owners and developers with existing developments or those wishing to commence construction but are yet to perfect their land titles, to obtain Planning Permits/Approvals without penalty.

 

Tpl. Kayode Daramola and Mr. Tayo Fakolujo who led the team said over two hundred notices have been served to buildings along Opebi-Allen Road, adding that the excise would soon be extended to other areas in the State.
