LAGOS CIVIL SERVANTS URGED TO BE MORE PROACTIVE

A call has gone to Civil Servants of the Lagos State Government to double up on efforts to make Lagos State the 5th largest economy in Africa and also achieve the Smart City objective by being more proactive.

The call was made by Deputy Director, Programmes, Public Service Staff Development Centre, Mr. Babalola Abidogun while addressing participants at the ongoing structural training for Civil Servants as part of the 2018 promotion exercise at designated centres across the State.

He urged civil servants to imbibe a daily result-oriented approach to work for speedy progress towards achieving government plans and policies.

Abidogun emphasised that civil servants need to keep abreast of new strategic ways of achieving results to engender a boost of their confidence towards improving government revenue.

According to him, “Sometimes change is sudden. Sometimes change is planned. But this time around, you need to plan to be more proactive, efficient and effective in your work more than you have ever done”.

“It is no news that Lagos State is aspiring to become the 3rd largest economy in Africa. Lagos is transiting from megacity to a smart city. All these will come easier than expected if you are determined to achieve more than you have been doing”, he added.

The Deputy Director, who advised civil servants to improve their knowledge on 21st-century service delivery which is basically knowledge-driven through technology, urged them to be determined to be solution providers to the government through diligence, commitment and hard work to move Lagos forward.

Another facilitator at the programme, a retired Director of Public Service Staff Development Centre Mrs. Bamidele Akinyemi encouraged Lagos State staff to exhibit a greater passion for their jobs to excel.

She noted that boldness is key to achieving greater results at work, noting that many with great potential have not utilized their God-given abilities because they are timid to step into positions with their creative ideas.

Akinyemi declared that “You have to put on an orientation to act like an entrepreneur. Be focused on what is needed at our workplace as visualized by the government and fashion out the strategy to meet it”.

While appealing to civil servants not to use bureaucracy as a means of delaying services, the facilitator urged them to pay attention to timelines in delivering tasks and accurate record keeping at work.
