WORLD WATER DAY: LWC INDUCTS WATER AMBASSADORS
In commemoration of the Year 2018 World Water Day celebration, the Lagos Water Corporation has inducted members of the State Children’s Parliament as Water Ambassadors in a bid to sensitize the public on the importance of water conservation and make them role models to educate Lagosians on prudent water usage.
Addressing the newly inducted Water Ambassadors, Engr. Deji Johnson, representing the Managing Director, LWC, Engr. Muminu Badmus at the event, said it became imperative for the ambassadors to serve as the mouthpiece of the Corporation, noting that the LWC Staff alone cannot cover the entire State.
While imploring the team to join Water Corporation’s efforts to stem the spate of pipe vandalism, Engr. Johnson noted that the Lagos Stategovernment considers world water day celebration a huge necessity, thereby joining other nations of the world to celebrate the Day.
He added that this year’s celebration with the theme “Nature for Water” is set aside to create awareness in finding sustainable and cost-effective ways to help rebalance the water cycle and improve water resources by considering nature-based solutions.
Assuring the public on the quality of water produced by LWC, he expressed the commitment of the present administration to meeting the daily water supply needs of Lagosians despite the challenge of its growing population.
According to him, there are lots of proposed projects laid down by the State Government to effectively and ultimately tackle the problem of water shortage, stressing that “Lagos State is at the forefront in addressing the water challenges we face in the 21st century”.
He, therefore, charged the newly appointed Ambassadors to promote the diligent use of water in their environments by educating the residents to conserve water as well as assist in monitoring water facilities and ultimately prevent people from damaging the water pipes.
Responding on behalf of the Children’s Parliament, the Speaker, Rt Hon. Raphael Ikuyinminu appreciated the kind gesture of the State Government and reiterated the team’s commitment to the course as they are prepared to take up the responsibility bestowed on them.
