LAGOS SCREENS PILGRIMS FOR HOLY PILGRIMAGE 

 

… Charges Them To Be Good Ambassadors Of Nigeria

The Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board has counselled intending pilgrims to the holy land of Jerusalem to eschew all attitudes capable of bringing the country to disrepute before the international communities, urging them to be good ambassadors of the State and country.

 

The Chairman of the Board, Bishop Olusola Ore stated this at the 2018 Administrative and Medical Screening for Intending Pilgrims held at Chapel of Christ The Light Church, Alausa, Ikeja.

 

He said it was expedient for the intending pilgrims to know that their actions and reactions while in the Holy Land form the basis for assessing the country, stressing the Holy pilgrimage presents an opportunity for pilgrims to show good morals as representatives of their families, the State Government and the country at large.

 

Ore, however, warned that the pilgrimage exercise should be seen solely as a spiritual exercise which requires brotherliness, mutual respect, undivided attention and prayerful lifestyle.

 

According to him, “We expect you to comport yourselves in an orderly manner. You should walk the way Christ did, showing examples everywhere go such that by the time you return from the pilgrimage you can cascade down the good lessons of being agents of positive changes”.

 

He explained that the screening exercise was designed to ensure that the intending pilgrims are emotionally, medically and physically stable for the exercise.

 

Ore further informed that the Board is concerned with the welfare and safety of its pilgrims and emphasised the Board’s readiness to curb abscondment during the exercise.

 

Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters, Rev. Verrals Kolawole emphasized that the journey is a spiritual one and should be embarked on with core Christian morals and values of respect and tolerance for one another.

 

He said: “Spirituality is nothing without morality. Your moral values will affect our image in Israel. As our representatives, be worthy ambassadors of Nigeria, respect one another, do unto others what you want them to do to you. Let’s show our virtues in eating, dressing and in other areas.”
