ECWA INTERNATIONAL CONFERS CHRIST AMBASSADOR’S AWARD ON GOVERNOR AMBODE

The Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) International has lauded the contribution of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to the improvement of the standard of living of State residents, just as it honoured the Governor with the Christ Ambassador’s Award.

The Award which was conferred on the Governor for his developmental strides across the State was part of activities marking the 75th-anniversary celebration of ECWA International in the country.

The ECWA Group said that the denomination had specifically benefitted from the kind gesture of the State Governor.

Chairman of the anniversary committee who led the Church’s delegates to the State Government, Revd. Dr. Olumuyiwa Malomo described the Governor as a leader who was not only concerned about the progress of the State but the prosperity of the entire country as seen in his inter-state economic drive with his fellow State Governors.

Receiving the Award on behalf of the State Governor, the Commissioner for Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr. AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef, maintained that the Governor was not carrying out any of the developmental strides to favour any particular group or religious denomination but was concerned about bringing even development to all residents of the State regardless of their social status, religious inclinations or geographical locations.

In his words, “It is a fact that Gov. Ambode is a God-fearing Christian who also enjoys the support of his wife who is a prayer warrior. Be that as it may, the fact that the Governor occupies a political office compels him to be seen as the Governor of all and for all who will not favour a section of the society above the other. Ambode is not out to do eye service or to receive the praise of men but rather he is just being himself, doing what God has sent him”.

He maintained that this is the first time in the history of Lagos State that few months to election period; nobody had signified the intention to contest for the position of the State Governor. This, according to him, shows the level of acceptability of the Governor by the populace.

The Commissioner appreciated the leadership of the women wing of the South-West ECWA for considering the Governor worthy of the ambassadorial award and tasked them to continue to pray for the troubled parts of the country who are presently witnessing religious disharmony, especially in Kwara and Kogi States.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters, Rev. Kolawole Verralls, maintained that the performance of the Governor is what speaks for him and not the volumes of what he says.

He, therefore, expressed the hope and prayed that the peace and developmental strides being witnessed in Lagos would cascade down to other parts of the country.
