PSSDC INITIATES BLUEPRINT ON COURSES FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICERS

As part of efforts to further strengthen the capacity building of employees of the Lagos State Government, the Public Service Staff Development Centre, PSSDC, has initiated a blueprint on courses specifically tailored to the needs of Public Affairs Officers in the public service.

This was made known by the Director-General of the Centre, Dr. Senukon Ajose-Harrison during the courtesy visit to his Office by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (Lagos Information Chapel) to interface and familiarise themselves with the leadership of the Centre.

Dr. Ajose-Harrison disclosed that a committee would soon be set up to look into the modalities to satisfy the requests of the Union in designing job-specific training for Public Affairs Officers to fit into the 21st century Journalism.

He further mentioned that the State Government policy is about precision, credibility and integrity which Public Affairs Officers must key in to.

The Director-General reiterated that the PAOs must be abreast of the new revolution in the service which is the “Growth Mindset”, an ability to develop one’s intellect, skills and talent through practice and perseverance to improve productivity and for better service delivery.

He said, “PSSDC is ready to grant your request, the Centre would look at the curriculum with which to design better programmes to meet the needs of your members in discharging their assigned responsibilities”.

He affirmed that the Centre’s desire to up the ante in capacity building has commenced with the benchmarking of its services with international best practices in the field of Management Development.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Union, Mr. Adewale Akodu had briefed the meeting on the needs of the Lagos Information Chapel members in capacity building, saying that the Union normally organises internal training for officers, especially new entrants without prior mass communication or journalism training.

In his words “PSSDC has always played a very active role in capacity building of Public Service Officers in the State. This explains why the Union came to ask for assistance for its members in capacity building”.
