LAGOS TRAINS ITS WORKFORCE ON STRATEGIC PLANNING
Lagos State Government has revealed that its workforce is being equipped with training programmes on strategic planning to ensure proactiveness to threats to productivity instead of reactive responses to an organisational crisis.
Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson-Oke stated this on Tuesday during a training programme put together by the Ministry on the effects of strategic planning on the workforce and productivity.
According to him, strategic planning is very essential to the Lagos State Civil service considering the need for the government to balance competing interests, judicious allocation of resources and also increase productivity.
“It is essential for managers of government resources to have clearly defined organisational objectives, itemise, rank and evaluate its resources and adopt an approach to allocating the resources to meet the stated objectives,” Benson-Oke stated.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Rhoda Olubusola Ayinde, maintained that the present administration under Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has exposed Lagos State Civil Servants to a number of workshops designed to increase, and in some cases, deepen the soft skills essential for success in a 21st century public service.
He said the soft skills include office etiquette, communication skills, office relationship skills, emotional intelligence skills, and problem-solving skills among others.
Benson-Oke informed that several Ministries, Departments and Agencies, (MDAs) where core skills were needed have benefited from training and workshops required to augment skills and knowledge of their personnel.
“The administration’s strategy for retooling the Lagos State Civil Service led to the exposure of a number of officers and officials to international trainings for the purpose of obtaining the comparative knowledge that will stand them in good stead to aspire for global best practices while pursuing the objectives of the Lagos State Civil Service,” Benson-Oke reiterated.
