LASG TO REWARD EXEMPLARY SERVICE DELIVERY – HOS

The Lagos State Government has assured all the public servants in the State of its commitment to ensuring that everyone is appreciated and rewarded for efficient service to the State.

Speaking at a press briefing organised to commemorate the Year 2018 Lagos Public Service Week held on Tuesday at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, the Head of Service, Mrs. Folashade Adesoye noted that all African Countries have set aside every 23rd of June as the Public Service Day in recognition of the invaluable service rendered to humanity, adding that the Day has now however assumed a global dimension as it is now celebrated worldwide.

She said, “The Public Service Day is recognised as a very important initiative to appreciate workers in the Public Service. It has, therefore, become imperative since 2001 to organise events in the Lagos State Public Service calendar to commemorate the Day”.

Adesoye stated that the theme for this year’s celebration, “Transforming Governance to Realise the Sustainable Development Goals”, was in line with the progressive reforms being implemented by this administration, revealing that the celebration will include appreciating the productive and outstanding efforts of the State Public Servants for effective and efficient service delivery at all levels in the State.

She maintained that the State Government will not rest on its oars in ensuring that the promise to institutionalise its commitment to the transformation agenda by delineating and streamlining the functions of MDAs, drawing up a Service Charter and integrating corporate planning in overall reform programme as an innovative approach to service delivery.

“This becomes important as the State Government is driven by a desire to ensure that service delivery is optimised and that people’s expectations were met on a timely basis”, the HOS added.

She reiterated that the ‘Growth Mind-Set which replaces the Fixed Mind Set’ era in the Public Service is an attestation that all Government Officials now have clear concept of prompt service delivery to defined job schedules with quality performances, saying that the approach is based on the perception that governance is open, timely, effective and efficient.

Adesoye informed that, as part of the fallout of the reforms, there is an increase in awareness and realisation on the part of Government that the time has come for career Public Servants to move away from career progression based on tenure to performance appraisal.

The Head of Service revealed that a lot of activities have been lined up to commemorate the week which will be rounded up with a Dinner hosted by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to honour outstanding Public Servants for their dedication, diligence and contributions to the landmark achievements in various sectors of the State.
