STRUCTURED TRAINING WILL ENCOURAGE STAFF DEVELOPMENT – PSSDC DG
The Director-General of Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Magodo, Mr. Senukon Ajose-Harrison has lauded the introduction of structured training as one of the prerequisites for staff promotion by the Government, saying that the idea has improved staff performance immensely compared to the old method of staff appraisal where staff were only assessed based on written examinations.
Speaking at a Training Programme organised for over three hundred eligible staff of the State Primary Healthcare Board, the DG said that officers eligible for promotion to the next grade levels are expected to acquire fresh skills and knowledge required to shoulder responsibilities and perform optimally in their next grade level.
Ajose-Harrison added that the officers in addition to meeting the requirements of the Structured Training Programme, must have also displayed a high level of dedication, vibrancy, resourcefulness, hard work and a growth mindset disposition.
The facilitator at the training, Mr. Taofeeq Ajetumobi, in a lecture titled “Performance Improvement Course 1 & 2” reiterated that the training was one of several other programmes initiated by the State government to ensure that staff performance and efficiency is improved upon.
He added that public servants must always work to harness the economic potentials of the State, project its investment capabilities and ensure that Lagos State sustains its leading role as the country’s investment destination and West-African’s economic hub.
Ajetumobi advised public servants to be digitally inclined and be kept abreast of happenings in and around the world in such a way that they would be able to contribute their quota towards the realisation of the smart city agenda of the present administration.
The Director of Nursing Services, Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Odukoya appreciated the initiative of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to replace written examinations with Structural Training Programme (STP).
Participants at the training programme expressed satisfaction with STP, saying that the training has the capability of enhancing staff performance as core areas and case studies were brought to the fore for practical learning and relevant experience sharing.
