RSW INITIATIVE COMMENCES TRAINING OF 5000 STUDENTS

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh has informed the over five thousand participants in the ongoing 13-week Ready.Set.Work programme of the need to take advantage of the opportunity and exposure being offered by the government by ensuring that they excel at the end of the training initiative.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the programme held at the weekend, the Special Adviser challenged the undergraduates of the RSW programme to make a difference in the Job market.

According to him, students should no longer be incapacitated by the financial status of their parents, the institutions they attend nor harbour any restrictive disposition but be determined and committed to exploring every opportunity before them to become successful.

“We are encouraging students to make a positive use of the internet but beyond that, we are also preparing them for the world of work through RSW and the feedback we have gotten for the past two years when this initiative kicked off is positive and the students themselves are very excited about it”, Bank-Olemoh explained.

He said “we are teaching students the soft skills they need on how to be adaptable to work, emotional intelligence, understanding the nature of the country’s economy. At the end of the training, participants should be better prepared to succeed in the world of work.”

He assured students of the present administration’s commitment to the programme, saying that the State Governor believes in equipping students with skills that would make them successful either as employees or employers of labour.

“This administration has committed resources to the Ready.Set.Work project since its inception. In his resolve to empower youths in the State and stem the tide of unemployment, the Governor has mandated that the programme must be expanded to cater for every student in any Tertiary Institution in Lagos State”, he asserted.

The training programme which is being held at the Lagos State University, Ojo has 5000 final year students from eight tertiary institutions in Lagos State as participants, namely Lagos State University, Lagos State Polytechnic, College of Health Technology, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, University of Lagos, Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Yaba College of Technology and Caleb University.
