LAGOS COMMITS TO BLUE LINE RAIL PROJECT 2022 DELIVERY DATE

The State Government has restated its commitment to continuously embrace ideas and innovations that will ensure that the on-going blue line rail project is completed on schedule.

The State Commissioner for Transportation Mr. Ladi Lawanson, who disclosed this recently while being interviewed by journalists, noted that the shift in the completion of the project was because there were some glitches that needed to be resolved.

This, he said, necessitated the Ambode’s Administration’s going back to the drawing board and review some of the basic electrical and technological requirements in the earlier signed contract agreement for an upgrade in line with current realities in the industry.

The Commissioner, however, gave assurance that with the new contractor, Messrs Alstom, a French company, being engaged, 2022 is a more realistic date of completion.

Lawanson further said that the State government is equally making concerted efforts at ensuring that the water transport sub-sector of the State attracts investors to make it more functional, which was why the present administration organised the recently concluded Water Transport Roundtable bringing together investors from all over the world.

He revealed that discussions are still on with the various would-be investors towards exploring the water transport subsector in resolving the traffic gridlock being experienced by Lagosians, as the State Government is mindful of the stress being encountered in Lagos due to its status as the commercial hub of the nation which receives two-thirds of imports into the country.

Lawanson averred that the State is doing its best with series of stakeholders meetings to resolve all challenges associated with traffic gridlocks, particularly that of the Apapa while also urging journalists to help enlighten the citizenry on the policies and achievements of the Akinwunmi Ambode Administration.
